Internal Rift Among Iranian Intelligence Services

According to well-informed French newsletter Intelligence Online there is an internal rift among Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence, the Vezarat - e Ettela'at Jomhuri - ye Eslami - ye Iran (VAJA) and the Pasdaran intelligence service.

The VAJA, which is leaded by Mahmud Alawi, is looking to keep more of the security budget for itself.

The Pasdaran have always received more relevant funding because of their more extensive deployment into foreign countries.

But the VAJA think that internal threats from the restive provinces of Balochistan, bordering Pakistan, or Khuzestan, bordering Iraq, also require more investment.

Recently there have been a growing number of incidents in both predominantly Sunni provinces, which have the support of Sunni nations in the Middle East and Central Asia region.
